I stumbled upon this a few days ago and I still can’t get over it! It’s also relevant to the current chaplette too since this mosaic was discovered in Hatay (housing the city of that was once called Antioch) at a far-flung corner of Turkey bordering Syria. Anyway, what really gets me about this mosaic is that it’s a skeleton in dramatic repose against a giant loaf of bread, wine in hand, proclaiming casually ‘Be Cheerful and Live Life Fully’. HAHA HOW TWIDI IS THAT??? I’ve never found something that jived so well with what I am all about, especially not something that’s 2400 years old.
